The WTBA is the organization that has preserved the most ancient version of the Yang Long Form before the modifications devised by Yang Chenfu -Yang Luchan's grandson - in order to emphasize its therapeutic aspects, and before he spread it all over China and around the world. Yang Chenfu's Long Form is the long form that we already know and the one we will keep on practicing. But it is the Old Form, the original one created by Yang Luchan in the 19th century, the one that preserves all the immense appeal of an art been born before the extension of the firearms, a period in which the command of Chi energy really was a secret knowledge, an era when Taiji was a fearsome fighting art, and at the same time an efficient healing system. This course will be a real first contact with the oldest and most reliable sources of Taiji, an unforgettable experience, and an opportunity that you must take advantage of. More information Saturday, 7th 10am till 5pm (with one hour for lunch) Yang Lu Chan's Taijiquan form This is the original Old Yang Style form, still mostly slow moving like modern forms, but the original form also includes explosive energy (Fa-jing) movements, these powerful energetic movements give this form a far greater balance of yin and yang. Also included are dim mak application, not the mystical dim mak you see in the movies, real world practical applications all aimed at the physiological dim mak points on the body. Yang Lu Chan's Taijiquan form and Push Hands. This is the original Old Yang Style form, still mostly slow moving like modern forms, but the original form also includes explosive energy (Fa-jing) movements, these powerful energetic movements give this form a far greater balance of yin and yang. Also included are dim mak application, not the mystical dim mak you see in the movies, real world practical applications all aimed at the physiological dim mak points on the body.  We will train both the form as well as applications. Taiji principles of movement. This can be applied to any Taiji form you are practicing, though we will be using the Yang Lu Chan Form, taking postures from this form and having a look into the body mechanics of how to move, to create power, from a balance of structure and flow, also looking at how the correct muscular activation in the form is how we channel the energy. For the push hands lesson we will be looking into details like how to effortlessly destabilize your partner by finding their centre, as well as how to move your centre when it is found so you can take your partners force and re route it through your body and down to the ground so your structure is not broken. Push Hands is not fighting, but it teaches principles that can be used in fighting, as well as greatly enhancing your understanding of the Taiji form, due to learning how to properly move from the centre under pressure. Sunday 8th 10am till 2pm (with a short break at 12pm) Here we will be looking at self defence training methods and applications, you will pair up with another student to practice. We will learn Da Lu, this is a training method from Taiji to teach us about going with the flow, we use a series of applications where we deliberately let ourselves be knocked off balance in order to learn what to do when this inevitably happens in a fight. The main thing about this is learning how to stay neutral under any situation. The Da Lu is a training method, not a fighting application. We will however also be looking at practical fighting applications, taking principles of Taiji and freeing them up into a more practical useful form. In everything we do we will look at the folding principal, this teaches you what to do when your technique does not work, your defence may be countered, so we show you how to best make that flow into something else, your attack may be blocked, go with it and come back at another angle. This is one of the most important areas of practice for any martial art. The training methods will teach you how to stay loose under pressure, how to adapt with out thinking first, but learning to let your body simply react. We will also use mitts for striking. Who is Eli Montaigue... Eli Montaigue is the son of world renowned Taiji Master Erle Montaigue. He began his Taiji training at the age of 4, but then got seriously into it at age 14 when he started training every day with his father. His father Erle was one of the very few people and to our knowledge the only person outside of China to be taught the Old Yang Style Taiji system. His main teacher was Chang Yiu Chung, who was the student of Yang Shou Ho, who was the grandson of Yang Lu Chan himself. Erle named Eli as his sole successor and handed him the system making him head of the WTBA a few years before he died in 2011. Since then Eli has fully taken over and become a world renowned teacher in his own right, travelling all over the globe to give workshops.
